The Monroe County Arts Alliance gallery is closed
When Nora Clarke co-founded the Monroe County Arts Alliance in 1995 (along with Eva Persons, Virginia Smith, Laura Newton and others), she was looking to stimulate interest in the arts in the local area. “We just saw that we had so much talent in the community,” says Clarke, “and these people needed to be brought together.”
Sixteen years later, the MCAA now houses its gallery on North Jackson Street and executes its mission to “provide opportunities and facilities for the community to experience and participate in the arts.” Here passersby can purchase local art of all kinds, but it is the experience of the arts that has become the aim of the group, which has a renewed interest in recruiting participants and patrons who value the creative spirit in everyone.
