Morenci Parks and Recreation

Morenci is located in Southeastern Arizona and is home to Freeport-McMoRan Inc. Morenci Operations, the largest copper mining operation in North America and one of the largest copper mines in the world.

The town site of Morenci is located south of the mining operations and is comprised of approximately 1,600 homes as well as a business plaza, healthcare complex, fitness center, parks, stables, recreational facilities and the Morenci Unified School District.

Clifton, the Greenlee County Seat, neighbors Morenci and offers astounding river valley views and recreational opportunities along the San Francisco River, one of Arizona's few year-round rivers. Resting at an elevation of 4,747 feet and nestled in red-rock mountains, Morenci is a gateway for travelers from Southern Arizona following Highway 191 up the Coronado Trail to the White Mountains of Northern Greenlee County and into Southern Apache County. Historic data for the region indicates average rainfall of approximately sixteen inches and, as Morenci is one of the highest elevation populous areas in the region, residents generally experience a few minor winter snow events each year.
