More about Nate Brugnara Fitness

Nate Brugnara’s fitness journey started five years ago, when he found himself waist deep in a marsh, suffering from hypothermia in a hail storm at a ranch in Sacramento. He wasn’t lost, this was a sixteen mile obstacle race he has signed up for as tribute to his mom’s victory over breast cancer. Though always involved in sports, and very active throughout his entire life, this race challenged him in new ways he had never experienced before.

Something in him was born that day! He realized he needed to be pursuing something that gave his life some true meaning and that was important to him. His journey led him to over 220 miles of competitive racing the following year. He went on to later leave his market research analyst job to pursue a career in fitness and inspire others to live a healthier and happier lifestyle.

Drawing from his competitive racing background, Nate takes a more functional, balanced approach to his training. Nate became an INSANITY group instructor and then went on to certify as a personal trainer.

A self proclaimed life enthusiast and adrenaline junkie, Nate believes in athletic readiness. It’s not enough to just be physically strong, but you also need to feel strong and have the mental edge that allows you to take on life’s challenges.

Nate believes obstacles are put in your way to test if what you want is really worth fighting for. He believe you must embrace the struggle of life in order to figure out who you are and unlock the unlimited potential you have deep within. Begin to believe it’s possible.

Reviews

Nate has been my personal trainer for six weeks and I have already seen great improvement in my strength, flexibility, stamina, and balance. I hadn’t been in a gym since high school and he helped me to quickly get comfortable with the gym and working out on a consistent basis. He listened to my goals and developed a truly personalized plan that laid a strong fitness foundation. He developed a workout routine that helped me build up my muscles and skills so I could move on to more advanced exercises as I progressed through the plan. He knows all the best practices and latest advancements in fitness and is continually seeking out knowledge and sharing what he learns. He provided resources that helped me perfect my form, keep motivated, and learn more about why each exercise was important. Nate’s communication, organization, and positive attitude made everything go easy. I would recommend Nate to anyone who is looking for a great personal trainer! - M, 33

Nate is one of the most dedicated and hardworking trainers I know. He doesn't just speak rhetoric, he believes it and applies it to his own life every day. - R, Age 32

“Nate’s pretty good at this. Looks like he’s been doing it for a while.” - Dave Chappelle, 42

Nate listens to your goals and struggles and individualizes a plan to meet your specific goals. He makes sure the type of training you get aligns with those goals. An added bonus, Nate incorporates personal development because he knows changing your mindset is part of the battle of reaching your goals. -D 26

Nate and I have been in contact for some time and I truly admire his approach to functional, sustainable fitness programs. You are lucky to have found him as a friend, trainer, life-coach. - M, 35

Q&A:

1. What is your teaching and wellness philosophy?

Strong body is a strong mind is a strong well-being. Athletic readiness. It’s not enough to just be physically strong, but you also need to feel strong and have the mental edge that allows you to take on life’s challenges. I believe obstacles are put in your way to test if what you want is really worth fighting for. I believe you must embrace the struggle of life in order to figure out who you are and unlock the unlimited potential you have deep within. Begin to believe it’s possible.

2. Do you have a personal mantra/word to help get you through a challenging training session/practice?

Whenever I’m about to tackle something seemingly insurmountable, I always stop and tell myself, “It’s possible.” There’s an old African proverb that says, “If there’s no enemy within, the enemy outside can do us no harm.” By constantly telling yourself that “it’s possible” your belief system begins to change. Because when you look at some difficult task, there will always be someone who will say you can’t do it or it’s never been done before. But that simple phrase of “it’s possible” becomes the benchmark to hold yourself accountable and keeps you in the game to constantly try to find ways to win. It puts aside your personal history and your memories and enables you to reach into your imagination: seeing what it is you want to have, doing what it is you want to do, experiencing what you want to experience. That simple idea all started with the notion that “it’s possible.”

3. Who are you inspired by?

I’m inspired by some of the greatest people who have ever lived. Alexander the Great, Benjamin Franklin, Bruce Lee, Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci. These people faced tremendous obstacles and were able to push through and leave their mark on history for years to come. What fascinates me about these people is their very complex daily lives. They found ways to live life to the fullest, on their terms, and excel in every single area they dedicated themselves to. That type of life balance is something I strive to one day emulate.

On a more personal scale, however, my mom is my biggest inspiration. A few years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She went through chemotherapy and fought through it and came out on top. What was so inspiring about her journey was her positive attitude throughout the entire process. Countless doctor visits, terrible medication reactions, hair loss, you name it and she looked it in the face and said I’m going to make it, I’m going to beat this. Her positive influence and mental edge spring boarded my journey into fitness competitions. As a tribute to her battle with and victor over breast cancer, I began tackling some of the hardest races I could handle. In total, I raced over 220 miles in one year and found my passion for fitness. None of this has been an easy or conventional journey, but I’m loving the impact my work has on my clients and I’m inspired by anyone who wants to change their life for the better by living a happier and healthier lifestyle.

4. What is your guilty pleasure?

It’s a tie between chocolate and doughnuts. I don’t think the two should be combined though. Chocolate is too complex and needs to be enjoyed by itself. Doughnuts are filling and flakey and need to remain in their pure glazed form. Combining the two is a little like flying too close to the sun. It just tears at the very fabric of civilization.

5. What should a student expect from one of your classes?

To put in some work. Expect to be pushed, to sweat, and to walk away feeling like you accomplished something.
