North Henderson Baptist Church

Our History:

A Desire
North Henderson Baptist Church was a desire for many people in Henderson. NHBC was the product of a church & association that understood the need of church planting and establishing churches in areas where there were none.

A Schoolhouse in 1902
Assisted by First Baptist Church of Henderson & the Tar River Assoc. the congregation of NHBC began worshiping in the Old North Henderson School Building on Lowry St. in 1902. This Baptist congregation met in the morning & the Methodist congregation used the school building for an evening service.

Lowry Street w/ 40 Members…1902
Later in that year, after having met in the School Building, NHBC constructed the first church building on Lowry St. By the end of the first year, the church numbered 40 members.

Church Street w/ Continued Growth…1919
After several years together & growing, the congregation of NHBC constructed a second building on the site of a grocery store across from current location . The congregation continued to meet here until 1949.

Garnett St Debt Free…1949
The third & to date the final church location was constructed on Garnett St. and bought from Miss Helen Rogers. Construction began in April 1947 and was completed and dedicated in 1949 debt free.
