Northern Lights Accounting & Tax

Joy was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she grew up in her family accounting firm. At age 4, she began her career at Freeman & Associates, Inc. as "Paper Stapler and Motivational Speaker", meaning that it was her job to wander around the office saying "Work, work, work!!" At 13, after Tom inadvertently deleted a season's worth of tax returns, Joy was brought in over the summer to enter them back into the software. Finally, during college, Joy found herself skipping her premed classes to help at the office, eventually changing her major to accounting.

From that time on, Tom and Joy worked side by side to build the family firm to over 1000 tax and accounting clients, 25 condo associations and a staff of seven. In May, 2013, Tom passed away, and Joy and Jeris took over the business. After a couple years, Jeris was ready to retire and Joy was looking for a change of pace.

That's where Northern Lights Accounting & Tax took shape!

In 2001, Joy married her best friend, Eddie Gerhauser, and together they had two beautiful daughters - Krista, 12, and Kaylee, 7. In 2016, they moved the family and the business from Fairbanks to Gilbert, AZ!
