Teen Institute was born in 1965 when seven winners of an Ohio high school essay contest on “The Effects of Alcohol” were made members of the Youth Advisory Board to the Ohio Governor’s Committee on Teenage Drinking. The current Northwest group was formed in 2006, and has grown substantially in both membership and activity since its inception. Today, the Northwest High School Teen Institute group has become one of the most active in the state, with more than 30 active members, and operates independent from any other governmental or community organization.
