The Oakland Christian Church had its beginnings in the small community of Browningsville on Willow Creek in Bracken County in 1860.
As members of the Browningsville Church grew, a need for an accesible, centrally located building became evident. To meet this need, the church was moved from the Willow Creek to the top of the hill where the Oakland School in Pendleton County stood. Dedicated families of the Browningsville Church met in the Oakland School building until a church could be built. In 1869, Lorenzo Colvin donated some land to the church and a Church building was erected.
Since the Church was built in the midst of a grove of Oak trees, it seemed fitting to rename the Church Oakland Christian Church. That site is the location for the present Church today.
