Oakland County provides boundless options for work, play, and lake living. I have worked in trendy Royal Oak. I have lived in a big city like Troy. And for the past 17 years, I have enjoyed living on a quiet lake in the more rural White Lake Township. I am within steps of all-sports White Lake and the many hiking and biking trails at Highland Recreation.

My husband and I decided to move to the Lakes Area of Oakland County 17 years ago. Having grown up on the “east side” in Macomb County, we didn’t know the Lakes Area at all. Despite this, we chose to go about our house hunt alone. So we did what any person would do, we searched the internet (endlessly) for listings. We drove by many homes, sometimes in the wee hours of the night just to see the neighborhoods. We went to many open houses. We visited model homes for new development communities, put deposits down for new builds, and later changed our minds. We spent over four months diligently, and tirelessly, searching on our own. We thought we knew what we were doing.

We were wrong.

Finally, coming to our senses, we contacted our “east side” realtor who recommended a Lakes Area real estate agent. After receiving MLS listings from the agent, we found our dream home in one day. Why? Because the agent had the tools to conduct a much broader search and provided us listings for areas we never considered, or knew existed. She was our real estate angel.
