Where It All Started

O’Malley & Foss Greenhouse and Landscaping was originally started in 1987 with a single greenhouse by Thomas J. O’Malley (Tom Sr.). As the business grew, Thomas G. O’Malley (Tom Jr.) joined his father and partnered in the business in 1994.

In 1997, Tom Sr. retired from the industry and the business was bought by Tom Jr., his sister, Sarrey Foss(O’Malley), and her husband Rich Foss. At this time, there were 6 greenhouses. As the business grew, 2002 saw the addition of trees, shrubs, landscaping mulch and stone, along with delivery service for these products. In 2003, Rich and Tom decided to offer their landscaping skills to the public, and our landscaping service was born.

In 2006, a major capital improvement was undertaken with the building of a 6000 square foot showroom. This area houses our office, interesting men’s and ladies’ restrooms, and the largest display of unique gifts in the area, including concrete statuary, wicker furniture, resin and concrete fountains, local crafts, seasonal décor, and much more.

Since the building of our showroom in 2006, our focus has been on more subtle improvements designed to make our business more physically attractive and easier to navigate. Our focus is solely on Customer Service, and most of our additions are focused directly on that premise. We hope you investigate our website thoroughly and decide to make a trip out to meet us. A True Family Business

Just as Tom Sr. relied on his two brothers and his sister for help when he started in 1987, we rely on our family even more today. It was Tom Jr.’s daughter Megan and her friends that did a bulk of the after school transplanting and weekend help during the late 1990’s until they all graduated high school in 2004. Then Rich and Sarrey’s son Jarrod and his friends stepped in to do a bulk of the work until they all graduated in 2007. Now Rich and Sarrey’s son Braden and his friends have stepped in. We are hoping they will help until they graduate in 2012.

Also for many years now, several weekends in the spring you will see a caravan of vehicles descending on our place from Ridgeway, Wisconsin. This is Rich’s family coming to volunteer their time. They will include his mother, Pat and his two sisters Lori (husband Loren, son Chip) and Brenda. Often in this same brigade are Rich’s childhood friends Chris and Tami Chappell. Including spouses and children there may be up to 15 people arriving from Ridgeway (pop. 500) to help us out. That’s 3% of Ridgeway’s population!

With Tom Jr.’s marriage to Michelle Krueger of Montello in 2006, we have added two future helpers to family. Two year old Skye O’Malley 1 year old Brooklyn O’Malley are already making steady appearances at the greenhouse. So we should remain a great Family Business for years to come.
