Our Garden in Old Lake Highlands

“Our Garden” in Old Lake Highlands is a community garden with a bit of a twist. Here, there are no individual plots to tend or dues to pay. This is a community garden in the truest sense of the word. Our Garden’s purpose is to bring the Old Lake Highlands community together in an effort to grow healthy food and healthy relationships. We will use the Back to Eden gardening method (see www.backtoedenfilm.com for more info) to produce as much food as its organic principals will allow (and it is a lot!) We will have regular work days to help share the work and the wealth but the real reward will be our connection and the friendships that allow us to serve each other.
Lake Highlands Baptist Church has donated a large plot of land and agreed to provide water but we are on our own for the rest. The great thing is that the Back to Eden method is a pretty low input way to garden. All that is needed for now is a friendly attitude and a willingness to work. In the future, we may need things like shovels, wheelbarrows, a shed, seeds and maybe some fruit trees but that is a ways off.
