More about Outlaw Soaps

Outlaw Soaps is a way to connect yourself with happy memories and inspiring environments — to remind you why you get out of bed every morning: because the world is beautiful. Our scents, including Blazing Saddles (the sexiest soap ever), Fire in the Hole Campfire Soap, Hair of the Dog, and the rest, are here to remind you the daily grind is not the grind of your life. Get outside. Look at all those damn trees. They are awesome.

You are always good enough when you’re in nature. You are exactly where you are meant to be.

But sometimes it’s not so easy, right? We have responsibilities. We have a 9:00 AM meeting, followed by that vendor call, which –oh shit, that presentation… maybe we can reschedule the vendor call until the afternoon–, followed by lunch (which is really another way of saying “eating while checking email”), followed by four more meetings and then, at 6pm, maybe we’ll finally get the chance to get some work done.

And tonight is laundry or we’ll have to start turning our underwear inside out.

Before that all starts, though, with a time all our own at the beginning of the day (or maybe at the end of the day, if you’re one of those people). A time we can be with our thoughts and appreciate the brilliance that we know is inside of us (but sometimes gets sidetracked in the race-to-the-end-of-the-week).

We take a shower.

The best ideas happen in the shower and this is no accident. Showering is a time when we relax enough to open our creative minds up to new ideas — ideas that we’re either too busy or too self-critical to entertain during the rest of the day. It’s a time when we can recharge. We can figuratively and literally wash off what’s bothering us and start clean.

Take that shower and make it all yours.

Outlaw Soaps can change the experience of showering into a night on the trail, a roll in the grass, a night out with friends, or a day in the breezes of Joshua Tree. It’s not just about smelling “pretty.” Some of the best smells aren’t “pretty,” but they are better than pretty… they’re real.

And maybe that’ll remind you to take that walk this weekend instead of melting into the sofa. Or maybe you’ll want to take a more aggressive day hike. Or maybe you’ll decide to go camping!

“No matter what happens, you can always go outside and drink a cup of coffee out of a metal cup.” – Outlaw maxim

.:*~*:._.:*~*: Our Soaps are Tested Entirely on Humans! .:*~*:._.:*~*:.

Russ and I both hope you enjoy our soaps. We test them on ourselves first, and then send out samples to a dedicated tester army. The only potential animal testing we could forseeably do is for our upcoming dog shampoo line… I mean, heck, as long as I have bacon scent, why not? I think we’ll want to make fresh grass dog shampoo too… at least until we devolve into rotting fish or skunk dog shampoo.

We really try to please our customers, so dogs will wish for what they wish for!

So, back on topic… after all that testing, we are really confident that our soaps are gentle and delightful. If you find this to not be the case, please let us know. Everything is a learning experience and your skin may be different than other people’s skin.

.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:* Our Footprint Will Self Destruct.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*

Each soap is wrapped in biodegradable material. When possible, we recycle packing materials (that’s why you might get something packaged with peanuts or wrapped in newspaper). Our burlap bags (used for wrapping as well as padding) will decay (but we hope you’ll re-use them).

Many soap makers use disposable cups, stirs, and towels. We have invested in reusable containers and terrycloth towels. It takes a little more time to clean up, but it’s worth it.

Our goal is to have as small an ecological impact as possible.

.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:* Wholesale .:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*

If you want to sell Outlaw Soaps, we have a wonderful wholesale program! And if you don’t have a retail store, we’re working on a commission program.Won’t that be swell? Find out more about our commission program by clicking here.

And also, if you can think of other places that you’d like to see Outlaw, for Pete’s sake, ask the merchant!! Tell them how important it is that they get Unicorn Poop on their shelves… that’ll certainly get their attention!

We're accepting suggestions for soaps, so please comment on the page and let us know what you think. We're a very democratic soap company.

.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:* About Danielle Vincent .:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*

Until really recently, I worked in a cubicle. I had been working office jobs for about 10 years without any more than the allotted vacation and sick days. It was so hard to make time for myself. I loved camping and hiking, but finding the time to leave the city was difficult. I would go to the gym trying to lose the cubicle butt, only to get frustrated that I was mimicking actions I wish I could take for real (cycling, walking, lifting).

It seemed like if I just had a connection to the outdoors and things I loved, that my office life would be OK.

One weekend, Russ and I were driving on the 46 outside of Paso Robles. We stopped at a little farm store and I bought a bar of goat milk soap. I’d sniff that soap every morning and remember how wonderful that weekend was.

I’m not going to tell you that the soap made everything OK. It didn’t. But what it did do was remind me of a time when I was happier than I was in the mornings. It gave me the lifeline to connect me with my passions. And ultimately, it led me to a realization that I could give other people the same lifeline to happy memories. And maybe those scents and memories would be the same kind of catalyst for others that they were for me.

So we started Outlaw Soaps on January 3, 2013.

And in a couple months, we were faced with a situation that I can only describe as the Universe booting me in the pants: the person subletting Russ’s place in Oakland had to move and we had to either move back to Oakland or lose the place. It’s a nice place and rent is free, so we didn’t want to lose it… and soap had been good to us… so we packed up and moved here to do soap full time.

I’m not one to look a Universal boot kick in the mouth. (there should be a better analogy here)

I think everyone can do this. Everyone is entitled to a good life (not as a handout, but as the result of good work). No one should put up with watching their days tick by in mute frustration. As far as we know, we only have ONE LIFE, and that’s far from sufficient as it is, let alone sufficient enough to squander days doing things you hate.

But reality is reality. Sometimes you have to ride the subway tunnel to get to where you want to be. Getting up and quitting isn’t always an option, so you have to do what you can to remind yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing.

Anyways, it’s not the most graceful philosophy, but it’s mine. I wish you all the happiness in the world. However I can help with that, I want to.
