The City of Painesville is made up of a highly diverse population of about 19,691 (2016 census) people whose children are served by the Painesville City Local School District.

The district is composed of five state-of-the-art facilities. There is one high school, one middle school, three elementary schools and a preschool.

The district employs around 500 certified and classified staff and is one of the largest employers in the City of Painesville and Lake County.
