Welcome to the Pamlico Property Preview. If you like water and boats in a friendly, rural, coastal setting, you will probably like what Pamlico County has to offer. There are many navigable “creeks” which join the lower Neuse River which, in turn, joins the open expanse of the Pamlico Sound. The Neuse is one of the widest rivers in the country and the Pamlico Sound is a 40 x 80 mile open expanse of protected water with several inlets to the Atlantic Ocean. There is little in the way of current, fog, or tidal rise and fall other than wind tide. The boating season is long, and due to its proximity to the sea, there is almost always a breeze. It is for this reason that the village of Oriental has become known as the Sailing Capitol of North Carolina.

The local fishery provides shrimp, crab, flounder, drum, sea trout and you can still find some succulent oysters, if you know where to look. Sport fishermen also look forward to the annual Tarpon Tournament held in Oriental. On any day you can be surprised by porpoise frolicking in your bow wave.

In recent years Pamlico County has attracted active retirees from all walks of life and from all parts of the country. Many choose to live at the water’s edge to enjoy the wonderful views and the convenience of keeping their boats at their fingertips. For those who choose to live off the water, there are many local marinas to provide safe dockage for their vessel. Many of the boats kept in local marinas are also owned by folks who live elsewhere but choose to keep their vessels here in Pamlico County for the easy access this area offers to wonderful recreational boating to places such as Ocracoke Island, Cape Lookout National Seashore and the Intracoastal Waterway.

The Village of Oriental provides many surprises for a town of less than 1000 year round residents. There are five restaurants, five marinas, two excellent boat yards, two motels, two bed and breakfasts, a fully equipped health and fitness club with an indoor swimming pool and other marinas and restaurants are nearby. There is also very nice eighteen hole golf course nearby.
