More about Papercutz

Inspired by the success of the graphic novel format in France, where one book in every five sold is a graphic novel, CEO and Publisher Terry Nantier decided to import this concept to the U.S. in the 1970s through the founding of NBM, at a time when comics for adults were a rarity. Becoming a leading indie comics press and one of the most highly respected houses in what has become known as “literary comics,” NBM has grown steadily ever since. In 2005, Terry recognized that the tides had turned and children’s comics had become a rarity; he co-founded Papercutz to meet this need.

Editor-In-Chief Jim Salicrup started his career as a teen at Marvel Comics under apprenticeship with Stan Lee. Jim, as a writer, and eventually an editor, was instrumental in producing Spidey Super Stories the first comic specifically designed for beginning readers. After editing such titles as The Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, the X-Men, and many more, Jim eventually became editor of their flagship Spider-Man line of comics where he relaunched the character in a bold new look and a new title that proved extremely popular, selling over three million copies. He went on to found a comicbook line at Topps by acquiring top licenses such The X-Files, Xena: Warrior Princess, and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Jim later served as Senior Editor/Writer at Stan Lee Media before co-founding Papercutz, where he brings this devotion to popular storytelling and early literacy to our entire line. Jim recently won the 2011 CBG Fan Award for Favorite Editor.

Associate Editor Michael Petranek grew up loving the comics work of several writers and artists he would eventually work with at Papercutz. After working for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Michael joined Papercutz in 2008 as an editorial assistant. In addition to his editorial duties, he letters the MONSTER series, several SMURFS comic strips, and the ARIOL series. He enjoys fighting crime with his cat, Robin.

Marketing Director Jesse Post edited children’s comics for Disney Adventures and Comic Zone, the two best-selling comics magazines in the country, from 2005 until their closing in 2007. He went on to revitalize Disney’s North American licensed comics business as an account manager, launching several new series and expanding the children’s comics footprint at mass retail chains. The first thing he ever read in his life was Jim Salicrup’s Spidey Super Stories, and he strives to bring that same magic to kids today by spreading the word about Papercutz.
