Prairie Creek Park consists of 282.75 acres and total water area of 16 acres and is situated 10 miles south of I-70 on U.S. 41 and 4 miles west on West French Drive.
Inside Prairie Creek Park is a lake and two ponds, a campground, picnic shelters, playgrounds, restrooms, trails, a baseball diamond, a tennis court, basketball goals, and a sugar house for maple syrup production.
The sugar house is in operation during Maple Surgain' Days (generally in February annually and dependent on the weather). Approximately 2,500 old growth maple trees are tapped throughout the park. Sap is collected and routed to an authentic log cabin where maple syrup is produced, bottled, and sold. Maple syrup and maple cream can also be purchased in the Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department Administrative Office.
Elliott Woods adjacent to the northern border (recently dedicated as a State Nature Preserve) is a unique woodland. At least 26 species of trees, eleven varieties of flowers, and nine species of wildlife have been counted. A nature trail, approximately 1.5 miles in length, transverses the woods. The trailhead is located within Prairie Creek Park.
The Prairie Creek Park campground, open May 1-October 15, has 42 modern sites and 2 primitive. Shower houses are available within the campgrounds for campground users.
