Message from Chief Michael Dillon:

Welcome to the Providence Fire Department Facebook page. The Providence Fire Department is one of the oldest fully paid Fire Departments in the country, transitioning from volunteer to a fully paid department on 1 March 1854. Despite our age and adherence to tradition, the Providence Fire Department has always embraced technical innovations.
Through our Facebook page we are committed to bringing our safety message to those we serve using social media. On this page we hope to bring information to the public on what we do, why we do it and how the public can best protect itself from fire and all disasters natural and man made.

The men and women of the Providence Fire Department are dedicated to the highest standards of professional excellence and deliver Fire and Emergency Medical Service to the 2nd largest city in New England. We proudly serve our 180,000 residents and the more than 300,000 people who work in and visit our city every day. In 2010 we answered over 42,000 calls for service. When we are not responding to alarms we are preparing to respond, always seeking to provide safe and effective service to the public.

Thank you once again for visiting us and I hope you like us
