SERVICES OF THE RANDOLPH COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Animal Control/Animal Shelter - 683-8235
The purpose of the Animal Control program is to control the spread of diseases such as rabies. Stray and unwanted animals are picked up and brought to the Animal Shelter. Also, the animal shelter accepts walk-in owner surrender of unwanted animals for adoption. Usually, there are many cats and dogs to choose from. The shelter hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located at 1370 County Land Road, Randleman (county landfill).

Pregnancy Care Management Program -318-6253
Clients will receive managed care services with the goal of improving birth outcomes and quality of maternity care. Referrals for pregnant women may come from any community program, OB-GYN, WIC, Pregnancy Care Center, DSS, etc.

Care Coordination for Children Program -318-6253
This program serves children ages birth to five, with special health care needs, premature infants, foster care children and children who have exposure to “toxic stress” (domestic violence, active parental substance abuse, etc). The goal of this program is to improve medical care for at risk children and reduce emergency room visits. Referrals for at risk children may come from any community program, medical doctor’s office, WIC, DSS, or anyone in the community.

School Health Services - 318-6164
The program provides a link for Randolph County students and health care. School Health Services collaborates with school nurse services through consultations, referrals, etc. for children in the Randolph County School System and Asheboro City Schools. Education and consultation for daycares in Randolph County regarding immunizations, communicable disease, and other healthcare issues are also provided.

Communicable Disease - 318-6243
This clinic provides screening and treatment for communicable diseases as well as screenings aimed at chronic disease prevention. The clinic offers skin tests for tuberculosis (TB), blood pressure checks, blood sugar checks and pregnancy tests. Open Monday - Friday from 8:00-11:30 a.m. and 1:00-4:30 p.m. for these services. The clinic offers baby shots, childhood and adult shots from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Test and treatment for sexually transmitted disease is offered Monday - Friday from 8:00-11:30 a.m. and 1:00-4:30 p.m. HIV testing and counseling is offered by appointment. (The clinic is closed the first Friday of each month from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)

Public Health Preparedness - 318-6248
This program plans for response to disease outbreaks/public health disasters, and is available for group presentations.

Dental Health Program - 318-6220
This program provides clinical treatment for school aged children of qualifying families. Dental screenings are provided for all Randolph County students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Community education and prevention programs are available upon request.

Environmental Health Services - 318-6262
To keep the environment and residents healthy, Environmental Health performs soil and land evaluations for permitting septic tank systems, permits new well construction, performs well water testing, conducts rabies investigations, and inspects many facilities, including restaurants, motels, and mobile home parks.

Health Education - 318-6196
Teaches people how to prevent unnecessary illness and improve their quality of life. Through Health Education, one learns to avoid risky behaviors and make healthier choices. This is accomplished through group and individual classes, health fairs, and educational resources.
Health Educators are certified car seat safety technicians, therefore parents can have their child safety seats checked for proper installation. Through the health department, the health education section also offers a Car Seat Distribution Program.

WIC
WIC - 318-6171
To get infants and children off to a good start, WIC provides nutrition education and special foods to pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to five years of age who meet certain income limits and nutritional needs.

Nutrition Services - 318-6171
Individual services include nutrition assessment and counseling by a Nutritionist for residents who have a physician’s referral. Group services include scheduled nutrition classes for residents with similar health interests and needs.

For breastfeeding education and promotion.

Women’s Health
Breast/Cervical Cancer Control Program - 318-6216
A program for women between the ages of 18 and 64 who meet financial guidelines. (Does not cover Medicare Part B.) The program offers free clinical breast exams and/or pap smears and mammograms based upon age and program guidelines. Presentations about breast and cervical cancer or the program are available upon request.

Family Planning Clinic - 318-6230
We help men and women plan their families. We offer birth control, counseling, education, and physical exams for women of child-bearing age. Services are provided on a sliding scale fee system based on income and family size.

Maternity Clinic - 318-6216
Provides prenatal care to pregnant women who are Randolph County residents, have no private insurance, and who meet the financial eligibility guidelines.
