Well known in the community and rodeo circuit for many years, Rich Bradshaw has been training, teaching lessons, and hosting events at the Geauga County Fairgrounds, in his Training Stable, for 38 years. He has had his fun on the serious show circuits and now just enjoys training, teaching, selling horses, hosting various events in the community for Trail Obstacle Challenges and Cow Sorting, and Trail Riding. Rich believes that some horses need a tune up by a skilled professional to keep them going well, but not all horses need a long term training program. Some horses just need an occasional day, week, or month to keep them well trained for their owner. Others may need a longer training period.

A LITTLE ABOUT RICH...

Everybody likes to talk about their horses. Rich is no different. He would like to tell you about some of the horses that he has owned over the years. Rich's second horse was "Frosty," a paint mare. He had sold his first horse who was a gelding so that he could buy a mare to raise a foal. It was a difficult decision for the young horseman, but Rich really wanted to raise a foal.

Frosty, unlike Rich's first horse, was a very sweet mare. She was used as a trail horse before Rich bought her, and was very quiet and easy to ride. He bred her to one of Doctor McCollister's studs. Doc McCollister was a local veterinarian, and Rich worked an entire summer for him to pay for the stud fee for the breeding. Unfortunately, the breeding did not catch and Frosty was not in foal. Heartbroken, Rich decided to breed her again the next year.

Will she have a foal next year? Rich was so disappointed that she did not catch the first time and was very worried about whether or not she would have a foal the second time. He enjoyed riding Frosty. She was so well trained and easy to ride, unlike his first horse. When the time came for her to foal, Rich eagerly checked her stall every morning. Only Frosty was in the stall with her big belly, but no foal was to be seen. He and his Dad watched and waited for a year, but no foal appeared. Heartbroken, Rich gave up. Early one morning, Rich's Dad asked him if he had checked for a foal. "No," Rich said. "Why bother?" His Dad said, "Why don't you check, just in case?" Rich went down to the barn and looked into Frosty's stall. Standing beside the sweet mare was the prettiest little paint foal that he ever saw! Once again, Rich was in tears.
