Salty Brine State Beach is a state-operated recreation area on Block Island Sound in the town of Narragansett, Rhode Island. Formerly called Galilee State Beach after the village in which it is located, it was renamed to honor radio and television personality "Salty" Brine (Walter Leslie Brian, 1918-2004) in 1990. The area offers ocean swimming and saltwater fishing. A 2800sqft beach pavilion and boardwalk were added to the facility in 2010.In the newsOn July 11, 2015, the beach came to national attention when an apparent explosion from under the sand threw a woman 5–6 feet into the air, injuring her. The cause of the blast remains a mystery.
