In 1975, our founder Ken Burnhap started Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard with the intention of making cool-climate Pinot Noir. With the Pacific ocean a few miles west and the Monterey bay to the south, Ken decided the coastal side of the Santa Cruz Mountains was the perfect place for growing Pinot Noir. Since then we have crafted high quality wines from small vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Winemaker, Jeff Emery has been working for Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard since he was 19 years old. He came to bottle one spring day in 1979 and never left. Together Ken and Jeff made some of the best wines in the appellation and in 2004 Ken passed the winery down to Jeff. Today we make wines that convey our place nestled in the Redwood forrest. Tasting are the same price as when we started - just $5. Come in and experience our coastal niche.
