Nature of Work
The sheet metal trade is one of the most diverse trades in the construction industry. Sheet metal workers fabricate and install duct and equipment for heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Sheet metal workers also perform work in industrial plants, install architectural sheet metal, and fabricate and install commercial kitchen equipment.
Sheet metal workers work in all types of conditions both inside and outside. Sheet metal workers must be able to work in confined spaces and at high levels with ladders and scaffolds. Sheet metal workers must also be able to work at high elevations with ladders and scaffolds.
Length of Apprenticeship
Our apprenticeship program lasts four years. Apprentices receive over 200 hours per year of classroom instruction. In addition to classroom training, apprentices are placed to work for a union contractor where they are required to receive a minimum of 6,400 hours of on-the-job training each year.
