Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) is a research-based discipline program emphasizing strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate behaviors to create positive school environments and is supported by the NC Department of Public Instruction. Shelby High believes that relationships and expectations are key to student success, and for us, the PBIS philosophy is a tool to foster those important relationships between school and community, school and home, and school and student. Our journey to full implementation began in 2009 and has been a work in progress. At the time there were only _____ high schools in NC that were categorized as PBIS schools, so information was limited; currently, there are ______ high schools that follow the PBIS model. Because Shelby High started early and has experience documented success, our efforts have been recognized by the NCDPI Office of Exceptional Children, the N.C. Association of School Administrators, and N.C. PBIS coordinators. Please contact us if you need information, or you think we can be of help in your own journey to full implementation of the PBIS initiative.
