More about Sierra View Country Club

In the early 1950's, Roseville was a bustling train and farming community. A city proud of its work ethic and what it had to offer, Roseville's clean family living condition and full range of recreational opportunities made for a thriving and healthy community.

In search of a way to showcase the City, some of the town's residents began a drive to build a country club on 180 acres of land just northwest of town. The chosen parcel of property featured gentle, rolling hills along with mature oak trees and views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Area Golfers and non-golfers alike enjoyed the idea and supported the drive for a first-class country club in "The All-American City,” a nickname which Roseville was, by then, known.

Golf course architect Jack Fleming was commissioned to design the course. Fleming, who served as the right-hand man to famed golf course architect Alister MacKenzie, designed a total of 18 courses in Northern California during the 1950s and 1960s. Other examples of his work may still be found at Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club, Golden Gate Park, Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club, Almaden Golf & Country Club and Dry Creek Ranch Golf Club.

The Club's first nine holes (now Sierra View's back nine) were opened in 1953. One year later, the other nine holes were completed, resulting in a 6,481-yard par 72 golf course.

During the ensuing years since Fleming's original work, fairways remain predominantly rye grass, and the bent grass and poannua greens continue to offer smooth, fast, challenging putts to this day. The mature oaks and other trees continue to put a premium on drives off the tee.

Over the years, the rolling hills of Sierra View Country Club have been walked by some golfing greats such as Byron Nelson, Natalie Gulbis, Nick Watney, Pat Hurst, and Billy Casper. Celebrities, too: Ronald Reagan, John Brodie, Joe Montana, Steve Young and Steve Bono have tried their luck on our magnificent fairways and greens.
