More about Sister's Cuisine

Located off the beaten path, Sisters Caribbean Cuisine is East Harlem's diamond in the rough. Hidden away on 124th street between Park and Madison Avenue, this intimate Caribbean and Southern café has a unique décor that will remind you of home. Since 1995 owner, Marlyn Lawrie-Rogers' hands-on approach to food preparation and customer service not only ensures a plate of the highest quality, but also one tailored to your exact desire. We customize your order with whichever meats/fish and rice you fancy, and encourage you to eat at least two healthy vegetables (e.g. greens & yams, cabbage & string beans, okra & spinach). Then, to top it off our world famous pineapple cornbread is the perfect sweet ending to your memorable dining experience.

The diverse origins of our dishes is one of our most unique characteristics. We serve, Trinidadian style: calaloo or kallaloo, caramelized-brown stew chicken, Masala curry chicken, and fresh baked roti. Jamaican style: jerk chicken (hot & spicy), oxtail stew with carrots, vegetarian red bean soup with dumplings, carrots & potatoes, curry goat, and curry chickpeas & potatoes. Southern style: baked macaroni & cheese, oven baked chicken, vegetarian collard greens, candied yams and Sisters baked flat cornbread. Also on the menu is: sautéed codfish (Spanish bacalao), salmon and red snapper with special fish sauce. On occasions Sisters offers southern fried chicken, fried fish and potato salad.

Sister cuisine also caters for posh parties. Chef Neville creates healthy recipes where he infuses an electric combination of island spices with fish, meat, and vegetables which results in some truly delicious home cooked dishes. As an entrepreneur Marlyn Rogers assures that quality services remain unchanged, and her loyalty and dedication to detail is what has sustained her for 17 years as she plans to continue on for years to come. She extends gratitude to all her customers.

Marcus Samuelsson mentioned in New York magazine that this mom and pop restaurant that has been around for a decade has some of the best goat curry in town. Sisters has also been featured in the NY Times, Time Out New York magazine, the NY Amsterdam News and more for both its warm and inviting atmosphere and delectable dishes.
