The Parish of St. Boniface in Lafayette, Indiana, inaugurated the Assumption Pilgrimage in 2007. This 30 mile pilgrimage takes place on the Friday and Saturday preceding the celebration of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A pilgrimage is a primarily spiritual journey. It is a reminder that we must deny ourselves, take up our cross, and leave behind our daily lives in order to follow Jesus Christ more perfectly. The pilgrimage is also a public testimony of our affection and thanksgiving to God for the most perfect example of the living the Christian life -- Mary, Jesus' own Mother, who lovingly instructs us "Do whatever He tells you." (John 2:5).
