St. Charles Borromeo - Hampshire

In 1928 the parish made the decision to open a pariochial school. Father Heckinger's plans were approved and construction began on the two-story brick building. In the fall of 1929 our school opened its doors to students, that year we had an enrollment of 85 boys and girls. The first class to graduate from 8th grade was celebrated in 1937.

In 1957 there was a need for an expansion. Father S.J. Eye, the pastor, asked for support from the members of St. Charles Borromeo parish. A multi-year plan was formed. The Renard property was purchased and converted into a playground for the students. In the summer of 1959 the church basement was renovated to accommodate a classroom of students.

In 1961, bids were solicited from contractors and the contract went to Paul Swedburg Construction Company. The ground was broken in a ceremony on April 2,1962. Father Petit, the pastor, blessed the cornerstone of the addition on November 4, 1962 , the feast day of St. Charles Borromeo.

The new school building was dedicated on May 8, 1963.
