Starr King School for the Ministry

Our 113-year-old Unitarian Universalist institution is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in the United States and Canada and our Master of Divinity program is recognized as a model for theological education. In Starr King’s most recent accreditation review, the school received high marks for excellence.

Additionally, we are among the fewer than half (46%) of all ATS schools approved for distance learning programs and among the 33% of all California-ATS schools approved for distance learning. We are also among the three GTU schools that offer distance learning programs and the only GTU school offering a low-residency Masters of Divinity.

We are also members of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, the Association for Theological Field Education, and the Graduate Theological Union (GTU), a consortium of nine theological schools and eight affiliated centers established in 1962. Through the GTU, Starr King students gain wider access to communities within Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy and Protestantism.
