About John A. Osborne, MD, PhD, FACC

Dr. Osborne obtained his B.S. with honors from Penn State University, his M.D. magna cum laude from Jefferson Medical College, and his Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Physiology from Thomas Jefferson University. After graduation, he continued his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts where he completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease. While at Harvard, Dr. Osborne published many articles on atherosclerosis, vascular biology, and molecular genetics. His clinical training focused on non-invasive techniques and he is board certified in Cardiology, Echocardiography, Internal Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology, Clinical Lipidology, Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, is a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension, and is one of the few Level III Cardiac CT Angiography experts. His clinical interests include preventive cardiology, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, congestive heart failure, cholesterol disorders, and cardiovascular genetics. He is the founder and director of State of the Heart Cardiology.

He has received a number of awards and honors for his accomplishments as a clinician and researcher. Dr. Osborne was named to the Hobart Amory Hare Internal Medicine Honor Society and to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society. He has received an American Award of Excellence, a William W. Bodine, Jr. Research Award, a Travelling Scholarship to Oxford University School of Medicine, a National Institute of Health Training Grant in Cardiovascular Disease, and an American Heart Association-Bugher Foundation Fellowship in Molecular Biology. In 2002, Dr. Osborne was recognized by the American Heart Association as the Cardiac Care Provider of the Year, as A Healthcare Hero in 2003 by the Fort Worth Business Press, as a Top Doc as a leading cardiologist by Fort Worth Magazine in 2004, and as a Texas Super Doctor in 2006 and 2007 in Texas Monthly.

Dr. Osborne has served on national committees in the past including the Publications Committee, Council on Hypertension Research of the American Heart Association. He is also a member of the National Lipid Association, the American Society of Echocardiography, the American Heart Association, and the Society of Cardiovascular CT.

He has taught at Jefferson Medical College, the University of Texas, and Harvard Medical School and is currently active faculty at the University of Texas at Arlington. In addition to his original research papers and abstracts, he has published book chapters and reviews on cardiovascular disease and has delivered hundreds of presentations nationally and internationally and has been featured in print, radio, and television news articles.
