The story of Stockton’s El Taco
In 1977 Bill and Virginia Stockton bought one of the “Original” El Taco Franchises. The restaurant located at 2825 N. Country Club Drive “near Glenn” they acquired it just as the El Taco Corporation was being dissolved.
This provided them an opportunity to craft recipes and create food their own way, “the right way”. Bill wanted good quality food, fresh meats and all the trimmings of a good Mexican meal without imitation cheese or soy bean products The original administrator of El Taco told Bill, “I will not sell you any of my sauces and spices unless you are committed to selling quality food”. This was exactly what Bill “ Mr. Stockton” was about and still is. Even today at family gatherings many friends, family and neighbors will attest that anything Bill decides to cook, that commitment to quality remains. Virginias’ touch, dressing up menu’s, recruiting kids from the neighborhood providing a “no experience required” job, creating trained workers, ensured the highest level of food service possible.
Their love of good food, family and community served them well. This tradition was passed on to Bills’ son, Tom, who has managed and operated and has created and prepared the food you have come to love over the last 30 years.
In December of 2013, the family unanimously agreed to sell the old location and dissolve the corporation so each of the children could establish their own entities Today, Gina Stockton owns and operates her own mobile food service at various locations in town. Tom has relocated Stocktons’ El Taco to carry 37 years of the Stockton tradition. He continues to serve the same food from the same recipes with the same quality ingredients
Our new location features dine in and carry out conveniences as well as call ahead orders for pickup. We invite both our repeat customers as well as new ones to come and experience the old and new flavors of our family history.
