The Strathmoor Preschool Education Center is committed to providing a Christian environment for quality early childhood education. Through develop-mentally appropriate activities in a centers-based classroom environment, we encourage each child to reach his or her potential. Because each child matures mentally, physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually, our school-wide curriculum emphasizes:

Learning centers for hands-on activities that help children discover new things. Centers include art, books, different kinds of blocks, computers, dramatic play and home living, manipulatives and puzzles, music, sand and water, science and nature, worship, and large motor skill development on the playground or in the gymnasium.
Educational activities that help children learn the alphabet and sounds of the letters (phonics), pre-reading skills, early concrete and abstract mathematical concepts, pre-writing and beginning handwriting, social studies and geography, the days of the week, the months of the year, and the seasons.
Social skills developed through sharing, being kind to one another, taking turns, thinking, reasoning, and problem solving.
Bible stories incorporated into the curriculum and Chapel services twice a month encourage spiritual development in the mind and heart of each child.
Our classrooms have lots of bustle and noise. Children are talking, playing, and exploring. We create an environment and plan experiences in tune with young children’s characteristics. Through direct interactive experiences, play, and exploration teachers help children to make new discoveries.

Young children at Strathmoor experience visual, verbal, kinesthetic, and tactile learning in various learning centers. Initially a child chooses a preferred center; teachers then affirm the child’s strengths and encourage them to grow and explore other centers and ways of learning. Our goal is to help children succeed and enjoy learning.

Our program focuses on your child’s development in the following areas or domains:
Language: listening and communication
Literacy: phonics, books, alphabet, pre-reading, pre-writing and early writing
Mathematics: numbers, shapes, patterns
Science: sorting and classifying, nature
Arts: music, art, movement, dramatic play
Social-Emotional Development: sharing and cooperation, self-concept, following directions, handling transitions, problem solving, appropriately expressing feelings
Physical Development: Gross Motor Skills - walking, climbing, stairs, running, jumping, hopping, marching; Fine Motor Skills - cutting with scissors, manipulatives, puzzles, lacing; Basic Health and Safety
