In 1997, the great bluesman Willie King organized the first annual Freedom Creek Blues Festival through his non-profit organization, the Rural Members Association. Since then, the festival has become an internationally acclaimed event that is known for its warm welcome, outstanding music, rural Black Belt setting and the joyful enthusiasm of both artists and audience. The festival continues each year in honor of Willie King, with thanks for generous support from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, plus assistance from the Alabama Blues Project.
