The unique name of our property, Lee's Ford, is a story of the south which reflects war, growth, and development in rural South Central Kentucky.

How we became Lee's Ford:
During the Civil War, the area was called Upper Ford. A lengthy battle took place here in early December 1861. it ended abruptly with the Confederates successfully fending off the Union troops. The following January, the Union celebrated it's first victory of the war at Mill Springs.

Years later, before the lake was impounded by the Corps of Engineers to create a water supply for the region, the road to Somerset ran through land owned by the Lee family. The Lee family farm was the only place to cross or 'ford' the creek prior to the lake being built. So, the name "Lee's Ford" was established.

Finally, in 1948, a large portion of the Lee's farm was acquired by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the formation of Lake Cumberland. Today, Lake Cumberland is the largest man-made body of water east of the Mississippi River, and serves hundreds of thousands of guests every year.
