Violence directed towards Houses of Worship can have devastating effects on the ministry of the organization and, on the quality of services provided. However relatively few religious organizations have established, effective, programs to combat this problem. Organizations are beginning to realize the devastating effects of just one violent incident.

These incidents can include reductions in membership, property damage, psychiatric trauma to parishioners as well as potential liability suits, repairs and clean-up after an event, higher insurance rates, increased security measures that may cause inconveniences to members and, most important of all, the death or injury of valued members.

This is an excellent program designed to help you better understand the importance of reviewing or starting a program to mitigate potential threats and vulnerabilities. Threats and other violent, abusive behaviors are no longer being tolerated in Houses of Worship. Worship Leaders, administrative and support staff are no longer immune to acts of violence. The decreased ability in coping with stress and unpopular changes in the institution’s environment have been associated with increased risk for violence.
