With an irreverent wink to San Antonio's past, The Sporting District recalls the original area of the same name, first established in 1889 for the conducting of all manner of sporting pursuits and legalized vice activities, where gambling, dance halls, saloons and bawdy houses filled a thriving twenty-two block section of the city's near west-side.
While much has changed since then, the desire of the sporting gentleman to "saunter forth to the enjoyment of the clinking glass, sport, and good fellowship" has not.
