More about The Voices of St. Benedict - Oakland, CA

The Voices of St. Benedict, under the proud Direction of Mr. Leonard D. Pete, along with New Pastor Rev. Jayson Landeza, continues to inspire their congregation each Sunday with their voices in song.

The Voices of St. Benedict consists of 35 members. It's a combination of many entities which include "St. Benedict Gospel Choir", "Da' Young People's Choir", "The Benedict Brothers", "The Benedict Sisters", and the 830 Mass Chorus along with Cantor Ms. Beverly Ervin.

“The Voices of St. Benedict’s” as a whole has participated in numerous events. A few of our annual appearances consists of the Cathedral of Christ the Light, where our former Pastor Rev. James E. Matthews is the new Rector and Pastor, St. Paul of the Shipwreck of San Francisco Annual Pentecost Revival, St. Paul Episcopal Church of Walnut Creek Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration and Our Lady of Lourdes of San Francisco, Annual Black History Revival.

The Music Director, Mr. Leonard D. Pete, has been a member of St. Benedict’s for almost 10 years. He became Music Director in February of 2006. Mr. Leonard comes to us from down south Louisiana, where he was born, baptized and raised in the Catholic Church in Crowley, Louisiana. He attended St. Theresa’s Catholic Church where his mother, Mrs. Antoinette Chaffers Pete, is also the Senior Music Director. He is a graduate of Southern University and A&M College of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a former member of the Southern University “Human Jukebox” Marching Band.

We, “The Voices of St. Benedict’s”, believe that God wanted us to use the precious gift of our voices to praise Him and to share His word. Our primary focus has always been to praise God and thank him for all of his blessings, and to uplift the hearts of many by "singing one song at a time, and changing one heart at a time".
