CLICK, CLACK, BOO! A TRICKY TREAT October 17 through November 11, 2017~ Kansas City premier of a brand-new musical based on Doreen Cronin’s latest book in the wildly popular series that began with Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type (performed by TYA last season). It’s Halloween time at Farmer Brown’s farm and the literate farm animals want an old-fashioned Holiday Celebration. One problem: Farmer Brown does not like scary things—no haunted house or creepy ghosts for him. But the clever, well-read cows, poultry and pigs create a party more fun than fright with apple-bobbing, costume parades and hilarious musical performances. RAGGEDY ANN & ANDY’S CHRISTMAS ADVENTURE December 1 through December 30, 2017~ Those lovable cotton-stuffed dolls with their bright red yarn hair go on a fearless adventure in the Deep Woods to rescue light, warmth and the spirit of Christmas for the diverse population that lives inside Marcella’s toy chest. Curriculum Connections: Dramatization of classic children’s literature, toy history, problem-solving skills, dance, holiday customs, magic, humor.
THE TOUGHEST KID IN THE WORLD January 30 through February 3, 2018~ A musical play about a boy named TK—short for Tough Kid—his peaceful friend Serena and their brave discoveries about ways to get along in today’s world with love and respect and without violence or bullying. Curriculum Connections: Live musical theatre, conflict resolution, anti-bullying, current affairs, mental health, tolerance, empathy.
JUNIE B. IS NOT A CROOK February 13 through March 24, 2018~ One of the funniest and most beloved characters in modern children’s literature, Junie B Jones, comes to life again on the TYA stage. She faces a crisis about Finders Keeper vs. Stealing with her usual spunk and humor. Curriculum Connections: Live dramatization of award-winning modern children’s series, character education, problem-solving skills, humor.
GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS April 10 through May 12, 2018~ In this lively, musical version of the beloved folktale Mama, Papa, and Baby Bear lead a very green “ecologically correct” existence until their lives are disrupted by the intruder, Goldilocks, a modern show biz kid from the city, and her two upscale and clueless parents. Baby Bear learns how to sing, dance and act from his new human friend, Goldilocks, and together they bring peace to their feuding families through music and dance.
PETER PAN June 2018~ This classic adventure begins in the quiet home of the Darling children and ends up in Neverland with Peter Pan, Tinkerbell and a happy gang of boys and girls who never grow up. Danger, romance, magic and beauty appear and disappear like phantoms in a dream. Will these lost children stay lost or will they find the courage to grow up? J.M. Barrie created the character Peter Pan in a novel in 1902 and later a stage play titled Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up, which premiered in London in 1904.
