TheatreLAB was founded though a partnership with Firehouse Theatre Project with the help of Founding Artistic Director, Carol Piersol, and Board President Kay Holmes. TheatreLAB's first session began in March of 2012.

TheatreLAB became an independent theatre company in January 2013.

TheatreLAB became designated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by the Internal Revenue Service in September 2014.
