More about ThunderFest

Thunderfest is a celebration in honor of the Thunderbolt Ski Race and winter in the Berkshires. It’s a great opportunity to get out, shake off the cabin fever and enjoy being outdoors. Some might think it crazy to hold an outdoor festival in the middle of winter, but hardy Berkshire folks won’t let a little cold stop them from having a good time!

Date: March 4, 2017, Noon to 5
(If the Thunderbolt Ski Run is postponed due to lack of snow, both the race and Thunderfest will be rescheduled for March 2. If there is not enough snow for the race in March, the party will still be held.)

ABOUT THE SKI RACE
Spectators are welcome at Mount Greylock to watch this truly unique backcountry race. On the morning of March 4th, 120 intrepid skiers and snowboarders will hike to summit of Mount Greylock, the state’s highest peak, then take a wild ride down the historic and difficult Thunderbolt Trail. The trail was originally cut in 1934 and the annual race in the 30s and 40s attracted world-class skiers and Olympians. Thanks to the great efforts of the Thunderbolt Ski Runners the trail was restored and the annual race reinitiated just a few years ago. It’s unlike anything you will see on TV or at a ski area. If you are up for a snowy hike to the finish line near Greylock Glen, you really don’t want to miss it. It is highly recommended that you take one of the free shuttles from downtown Adams – parking at the mountain will be very limited.
