Tolentine Community Center’s mission is to improve the quality of life for all people in South Philadelphia, with emphasis on educational, cultural, social, and recreational services. We aim to provide an opportunity for all constituents within our catchment area to develop their full potential as productive members of society, while at the same time creating a better community in which to work and to live.
Tolentine’s community-based programs have been designed with the needs of our target population in mind. The Community Center building provides a central place for the wider community to meet, learn, interact positively, and participate in a broad range of programs and activities. Most notably, we have developed an expertise in providing services to children and youth through the Tolentine After School program, which has been in operation since 1995.
Currently, Tolentine Community Center also has a Summer Camp for children and an Older Adults Activities program. We have a large gym that is used for Open Court nights for community members. In the upcoming months, we hope to expand our programming to offer more services and meet the needs of our community.
