More about Utica Vol. Fire Department (Ohio)

The Utica Volunteer Fire Department was first founded in 1880, 70 years after the Village of Utica was founded. Utica was originally called Wilmington. There was already a Wilmington in Ohio at the time and for Postal Office reasons it was changed. Utica was the center of the hand made window glass industry. Many fires occured over the years and in 1938 a new water system was established and a new fire engine costing slightly more than $5,000 was purchased. This engine was in service until the late 70's and is now housed at the Utica Historical Society and is now slated for restoration. Donations are being accepted to help with this cost. The department grew over the years with the Chiefs being Wilbur Peet, Lee Reynard, Dean McKibben, Richard Robinson, Eugene Richards, Russell Davis, Michael Frey, Richard Wray, Daniel Helphrey III, and Jason Woodruff.
