Commanded by Captain Jim Rose, the Marine Rescue Team was established in August 1999, to administer a program which provides for the immediate response and timely arrival of a specially trained and equipped Dive Team, to respond to requests for rescues involving Drownings, Near-Drownings or Water Related Rescues. In addition, they apply special procedures and search techniques for locating and removing patients from hazards, and provide additional assistance to BLS and ALS personnel when necessary according to medical and operational protocol. As a member of the Tidewater Regional Underwater Search and Rescue Team, this team continues to excel resulting in requests by regional, state and national organizations for assistance. Just to name a few such requests as the Flight TWA 800 crash on July 1996 and the search for John F. Kennedy Jr. Piper Saratoga off the east coast on July 1999.
