More about Virginia Chess Club

We are home of the biggest college competitive chess team in Virginia and are the current Virginia States Collegiate Champions. We host practice every week for our team members, but we are happy to help others who are interested in playing competitively or just simply improve. Currently, we compete in two major tournaments every year: United States Amature Team East in Parsipony, New Jersey; and Virginia State Championship in Virginia.

We also work very closely with a local volunteering organization, Playing ACES Chess, which teaches elementary school children chess. We also promote chess around the Charlottesville area by hosting joint events with ACES. Currently, we are working on bringing chess programs to the high school and eventually starting a local chess league.

Finally, we are also a social club with a bunch of cool people who like to play chess and have fun. Come join us in our weekly meetings to just chill and chat. We also host at least two parties every semester.

Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University.
