Who We Help

WarHorses for Heroes provides a superior equine therapy program to the Memphis area and the Midsouth region to aid in the healing of our injured veterans and to be a part of their transition back into civilian life.
Each veteran interacts with a horse in a variety of activities, building their skills and confidence as they advance through the program.
The equine therapy sessions led by our knowledgeable horsemanship instructors will provide an opportunity for the veterans to create relationships with the horses and with fellow veterans, allowing them to build their self-esteem, stability and connections, with the goal of helping the heroes of our country heal, both emotionally and physically.

Veterans with mental illness who participated in Therapeutic Riding programs:

Equine Assisted Therapy is effective because:

A horse is an intuitive, nonjudgmental partner, providing a trusting and open environment for processing and healing.
The rhythm of a horse’s gait is similar to that of a human’s, providing the sensation of movement to those with injuries severe enough to impact independent movement
Working towards measurable and achievable goals provides a sense of purpose and accomplishment
Helping other veterans and working alongside them allows veterans to experience different roles and build new relationships
