Westerfield Cottage

The Westerfield family originally built our pine log cabin home in 1977 and established it as a private residence until 1982 at which time they transformed the cabin and its land into a unique bed and breakfast and quaint bistro.

The Westerfields took great pride in their business. They catered lavish themed dinner parties, especially festive during the holidays, on the entire property and especially in the "Summer Kitchen," a smaller cottage built by Jim and his son and situated next to the main house. When we learned about the history of our home, we decided to call the "Summer Kitchen" the "Westerfield Cottage" in honor of Jim and Marilyn and to continue renting it to fine folks from around the country and the world.

Jim Westerfield, an accomplished musician and composer, was quite the host and took great pride in his interest in botany. His accomplishments live on in our gardens today where we still grow different varieties of his cross-pollinated mints including Dulcia Citreus, or "Hillary’s Sweet Lemon Mint". The mint was delivered to then First Lady Hillary Clinton in 1993 and planted in the White House garden. Jim created over 60 unique culinary mints. His wife and partner Marilyn worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make their entertaining as seamless as possible. Together they build a special retreat in the heart of the Illinois farmlands.

The Westerfield House has also operated as "His Rest" and "The Anatolian Inn."

Today our family has reclaimed the main cabin as a private residence. The "Summer Kitchen" remains available for rental. We're offering what everyone else is not. A true escape from your phone, your calls, the world. A true engagement with nature where this land is made for you and me.

The Westerfield Cottage provides the best in local amenities and an abundance of ideas to embrace the local culture. We also pride ourselves on green living and hope you will enjoy a walk back into nature; a wonderful alternative to the hectic pace offered by city hotels and inns.
