More about Western Region Little League Baseball and Softball

The Western Region Little League Baseball and Softball Headquarters is located in San Bernardino, CA. The first tournament involving teams from all the western states took place in 1971.

John Schnepp, a local businessman and Little League supporter, and others vowed in 1963 to create a memorial to Perry Winstead, considered “Mr. Little League” in the Western United States. Thus, the Western Region Headquarters was born.

San Bernardino and Southern California provided the majority of funds towards the building project, while Al Houghton, the west’s first regional director who oversaw the construction and for whom the main field is named, asked each Little League to donate at least $1 for each of its players. Additional funds came in from other sources.

A crew of 100 volunteers, organized by the San Bernardino-Riverside chapter of the Engineer Grading Contractors Association (EGCA), donated their services for the project. And, as construction progressed, additional volunteers stepped forward, including, but not limited to: carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and painters.

Recently, the dorms and Thomas C. Boyle Administration Building were renovated, while Al Houghton Stadium was expanded to 225 feet and a new scoreboard installed, all thanks to the Easton Foundations.
