More about Wicked Woman Farm

Wicked Woman Farm is a mini-farm specializing in pasture raised chicken, turkey, and pork, as well as various fruits, berries, nuts, vegetables and herbs. We also offer a full-service bakery and lunch delivery program in the local area. We work year-round to provide the best products to our family, friends and neighbors. Our farm-fresh products can be purchased at the local farmer's market and directly from the farm. Our pasture raised whole chickens can also be purchased at Hancock's Neighborhood Market in Cadiz, KY.

In addition to the fresh products produced on the farm, we provide educational opportunities and periodic farm tours for individuals and groups. Our educational opportunities include classes in bread making, soap making, processing chickens, and other homesteading and farming skills.

Misty and her family purchased the Old Tanyard Farm property in April of 2015 and immediately began rehabilitating and farming the land. Soon thereafter, Misty's father, Butch Abernathy joined the family on the farm. Through selective animal grazing, periodic mowing and pasture management programs, the majority of the farm has been returned to usable land. What was once a tangled mess of weeds and bedrock has turned into a beautiful haven of sweeping, lush green pastures, groves of Black Walnut Trees, a small but lovely apple orchard, open wet-weather creek beds, a retaining pond, and a beautiful bubbling spring head. There is still work to be done, but through hard work, the family hopes to turn the remaining unused land into a large garden plot. The wooded areas on the property are being rehabilitated in hopes of providing a more natural grazing area for the farm's hogs and other livestock. So far, the wooded areas seem to be a favorite spot for deer, although, for safety reasons, we do not allow hunting on the property.

In 2016, we had a visitor to the farm who was born here on the property while the Tanyard, after which the area was named, was still in operation. We learned so much about our property from this lovely woman, including the fact that our farmhouse currently sits where the actual tanyard sat. Remnants of the old tanyard and the buildings that once populated the area still remain on the farm, to include an ancient cistern and spring house, an un-measurable number of bricks found in the ground, broken tiles, and other items scattered throughout the property. We even found a grave marker, although according to the county records no one has been buried on the property!

Wicked Woman Farm is owned by Misty Coppedge and operated by her and her father, Butch Abernathy. Both Butch and Misty are veterans of the United States Army. Misty is a disabled veteran. Wicked Woman Farm is a member of Kentucky Proud, Homegrown by Heroes, Local Harvest, Trigg County Farmer's Market, and the Farmer Veteran Coalition.
