At the Y, each day is a journey of discovery and learning. How do
plants grow? Who is George Washington? What is respect? How do
I sort by color? How do things float? Who is Eric Carle? By using the Creative Curriculum (for children ages 6 weeks to 2 years) and the Core Knowl-edge Preschool Curriculum (for children ages 3 to 5 years), our teachers carefully plan activities to ensure that your child will develop the academic and social skills needed for kindergarten and beyond:
Language & Literacy - Reciting nursery rhymes, finger plays and songs. Increasing vocabulary. Reading stories and story-telling. Learning reading and writing skills.
Physical Well-being - Implementing movement, coordination, and fine and gross motor development through outdoor play and the I Am Moving, I Am Learning curriculum.
Social & Emotional Development - Learning social skills and work habits. Understanding rules and following directions.
Math - Discovering mathematical concepts, including patterning, sequencing, counting, grouping and sorting to
name a few.
Science - Making predictions and understanding the physical world around us.
Music - Identifying sounds and rhythms. Singing, dancing and playing instruments.
Visual Arts - Producing art using various media and techniques. Examining and appreciating artwork.
Character Development - Implementing the Y core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
All of this allows us to provide asset-rich programs that meet or exceed state standards and help young children build developmental assets- the building blocks that shape children into caring, responsible and successful members of society.
