Volunteer Workdays each week:
Wednesdays 2-6pm
Fridays 11-4pm
In 2008, with support from SF’s Planning Department, residents and students of the Urban Permaculture Institute transformed an empty lot at 18th and Rhode Island into a lush food forest.
Over the years, the 5000 sq ft site has evolved as a hub for community connection, sustainable design and ecological education. The garden yields an abundance of produce that is donated to neighbors, volunteers and local food activist organizations.
Based on the ecological ethic of care of people, care of earth and reinvestment of the surplus, SF Permaculture Guild supports events, projects and info-sharing opportunities around permaculture design. 18th and Rhode Island is the Guild’s official demonstration garden.
