Project REBOUND Overview

i. Purpose
a. Create a summer league for youth in the El Camino area to include tournaments, clinics, organized league play, Playoffs and championship games, and nutritional education for young student athletes.
b. Providing various age group leagues to encourage healthy activities in a safe, and educational atmosphere.
c. Create a community awareness to encourage participants to become leaders with in the community.
ii. Vision
a. Provide the youth in this community a healthy outlet for organized sports while educating families on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle for Student- athletes.
b. Through role models influence and community support to provide youth a source of pride and community.

a. Crime and drugs
i. Open air drug market
1) Gives the youth the false sense of financial freedom and discourages education.
2) Negative role models
3) Leads to gang behavior and affiliation
4) Risks of homicide and trauma greatly increased
5) Increases risks of drug and substance abuse.
ii. No access to affordable neighborhood programs with positive role models and structure
1) Not all ages and kids are able to play at the R-Centers
a) Crime/ Bully concerns
b) Not enough organization or instruction
c) Same speed and skill level for each different skill level and set
2) High poverty rate means parents cannot afford programs, leagues, and camps
b. Education
i. High dropout rate and low graduation rates
1) Low test scores
2) High unemployment
ii. No solid athletic presence with in the city district
iii. No area role models and influences
c. Teen Pregnancy

i. Poor access to healthy nutrition
ii. Poor nutritional choices more readily available and affordable
iii. Poor nutritional and financial education
v. Basketball leagues, Tournaments, and Camps
a. Tournaments
i. 3 on 3 tournaments
1) Promote with the help of HOPE various 3 on 3 tournaments at various outside basketball courts with in the El Camino area.
2) Family Fun day event where a tournament could provide an extra event to encourage healthy interaction between families and neighbors.
3) Use the Tournament events to coincide with other events and programs to promote Project REBOUND and the leagues.
b. Camps
i. Pre- Season and during season camps to instruct on various aspects of basketball techniques, skills, and ideology.
ii. Off-Season Drills and Camps to REBOUND participants currently not involved in School or church leagues to increase basketball skills.
iii. Integrated nutritional training and instruction to increase maximum health effect of physical and mental training.
iv. Provide educational tutoring and develop strong mentorship bonds to encourage school attendance and performance.
c. Leagues
i. Create Different leagues for different level of participant by age
1) Youth League
a) Coed (or boys and girls if number of participants are conducive) Ages 9- 12 Years of age
b) Summer leagues (possible in season league for girls if interest is warranted)
c) Camp style practices emphasis on fundamentals
d) At least six 5 player teams to participate
e) Have one adult role model coach and one Senior League assistant working in tandem
f) Playoff style tournament at Leagues conclusion.
g) End of year tournament and award ceremonies.
h) Rigorous style of mentoring
i) Education goals and rewards
ii) Citizenship and Community awareness and involvement
i) Video recording of Games to be broadcasted on YouTube
2) Junior League
a) Male and Female leagues ages 13-15
b) Summer leagues
c) More traditional practices with emphasis on teamwork and FUNEDALMENTALS
d) At least six 5 player teams to participate
e) One coach with assistant or Senior league assistant or both
f) Playoff Style tournament at leagues conclusion
g) End of year tournament and awards ceremony
h) Rigorous style of mentoring
i) Education goals and rewards
ii) Citizenship and Community awareness and involvement.

3) Senior League
a) Male and Female leagues ages 15-19 Years of age
b) Summer leagues
c) More traditional practices with emphasis on teamwork and FUNEDALMENTALS
d) At least six 5 player teams to participate
e) One coach with assistant or Senior league assistant or both
f) Playoff Style tournament at leagues conclusion
g) End of year tournament and awards ceremony

4) Community League
a) Male and Female Leagues ages 19 Years of age and up
b) Summer and regular season leagues depending on participation and sponsorship

d) Encourage organized exercise activity to promote community involvement and pride.
i) Try to enlist the Rochester Police Department to have a team
ii) The FDP
iii) Enlist local businesses to organize a team
iv) Local Neighborhood teams to increase health
v) Starts a community connection to improve relationships
e) NBA Style rules and playoffs

vi. Male Youth Outreach Group
a. Create a weekly forum where discussions and dialogue can be establish with the male youth component of the community to understand from their perspective of today's issues
b. Create a group where community awareness and involvement can be established by using the examples and teachings of role models and community organizations by providing outreach to today's male youth
c. Discuss with the youth population what can be done better to combat todays issues from their opinion giving them a voice in the community while educating them on h correct to voice their concerns.
d. Provide guest speakers from various areas of the community to convey hope and inspiration
e. Provide nutritional and financial education to male youth to better increase awareness
