More about Abingdon Cinemall

Abingdon Cinemall’s top priorities are to provide friendly customer service and the highest quality picture, sound and comfort available in the motion picture industry – and all at the most affordable prices to our customers. We have the lowest ticket prices of all the major multi-plexes in the Tri-Cities area. Our ticket prices are up to $2.50 less PER TICKET than other theaters in the Tri-Cities region. And our concession prices are lower too, on every single item we sell. On some items our concession prices are as much as $2.00 lower! So if value, savings and best bang-for-your-buck is important to you, then the Cinemall delivers.

Our lowest ticket prices are the first shows of the day (Early Bird) seven days a week, every Tuesday all day and night (Discount Tuesdays), and every Monday all day and night for seniors (Seniors’ Day). A student discount program is coming soon.

Free refills are always offered on large popcorns and large soft drinks, and we offer popular bottled water and spring water at reduced prices, as well as tap water for free.

Several members of our staff have been working at the Cinemall for more than 10 years, and they know many of our customers and their family members by face and by name. We are a family-owned and operated business. Every single one of our customers is important to us. The Cinemall is our only location. We are not an outlet of a national chain corporation. Our closest competitor, a national chain, has more theaters outside of the United States than inside the United States! Where would you feel more important and more appreciated?

We are proud to offer the best cinema projection and sound equipment in the industry. This includes Dolby Digital Cinema, Dolby 7.1 digital sound, RealD 3D, and digital projectors capable of generating four times the pixel resolution of Blu-Ray; in other words, resolution four times 1080p!

Many of our customers say movies sound better at the Cinemall. One reason for this is that we are the only theater in the Tri-Cities market to feature hydro-subs, which are sub-woofers that pass base signals through 600 gallons of water in order to generate booming low frequency sound – lower than can be produced by traditional subwoofers. Another reason is that our surround sound systems include center, front left, front right, right side, left rear, right rear, rows of overhead speakers in the ceilings and up to 10,000 watts of subwoofers. Our superior sound systems led to our being featured on ABC’s Good Morning America show and named as one of the three best movie theaters in America to experience Star Wars!

Our customers also compliment our seats. All our seats are all plush, high-back rockers. Many are ‘duets’, where the arm in-between two side-by-side seats can be folded up and away, revealing a supplemental cupholder in-between the seats but below the seat cushions level.

The images on our wall-to-wall screens are described by customers as brilliant with colors that are richer and deeper than other theaters they’ve been to. One reason for this is that we use higher wattage bulbs than many other theaters. So for example, where another theater may use a 2000 watt bulb, we use a 4000 watt bulb.

The Cinemall is an avid supporter of our military and veterans, and we are the only theater in the Tri-Cities region to offer a formal Military Honors Card, which entitles the cardholders to rotating discounted prices and specials.

Over the years several movie premiers have taken place at the Cinemall, including Stardust, and Freedom. We have presented Arts, Foreign and Indie films since the 1990s. At the Cinemall this program is called the Arts Array, and it is a cooperative venture between the Cinemall and Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC). All students and employees of VHCC and the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center are granted free admission to these events with a valid campus identification card. Additionally, those with a valid campus ID from Emory & Henry College, King College, and Virginia Intermont College may attend films at the Cinemall for free. Community members also are invited to attend by paying standard ticket prices. Arts Array films are shown on Mondays and Tuesdays at 4:00pm and 7:30pm, September thru November and January thru April.

We have special ticket price programs for school groups, church groups, scout groups, daycare centers, major employers and small employers. And if that doesn’t include your group, then talk to us. We are always accommodating and creative. And we host parties ranging from children’s birthday parties to annual employer Christmas parties.
